Getting to Kokusai Street

Kokusai-dori runs through the heart of Naha, and the Yui Rail monorail from the airport is the simplest way in — no transfers, no traffic, and four stations bracket the street so you can start at one end and leave from the other.

From Naha Airport

• Yui Rail monorail (recommended): Board at Naha Airport Station (directly connected to the terminal). For the west end of Kokusai Street, ride to Kencho-mae Station (about 12 minutes); for the market area and the middle of the street, continue to Miebashi or Makishi Station. Trains run every few minutes; IC cards (Suica etc.) and the local OKICA card are accepted, and one/two-day passes are available — worth it if you plan several rides.
• Taxi: Convenient with luggage; the ride from the airport is short, but traffic around Kokusai Street can be slow at rush hour and on weekend evenings.
• Rental car: There is no parking on Kokusai Street itself — use a paid lot nearby. If you are staying in central Naha, you genuinely do not need a car for this area.

Which station should I use?

• Kencho-mae — west end of the street. Directly connected (2F walkway) to the Palette Kumoji department store. Start here to walk the whole street.
• Miebashi — a short walk to the middle of the street and the Ukishima-dori side lanes.
• Makishi — east-center. Closest to the covered arcades and about 9 minutes on foot from the Makishi Public Market. The tourist information center (with coin lockers) is 5 minutes away.
• Asato — east end. 2 minutes from the retro Sakaemachi Market, best visited in the evening.

Getting around on foot

• The main street is about 1.6 km end to end — a 20–30 minute walk without stops (you will stop).
• The market arcades are covered, so the area works well even in the rain.
• The lanes are narrow and busy: keep to the side when you pause, and mind delivery carts in the morning.
• Tsuboya pottery street has stone paving that gets slippery when wet — comfortable shoes recommended.
